My husband has a 00 ford ranger with a 4 cylinder engine. He just took his truck in for its 45000 mile scheduled maintanance. I was wondering what the avg price is for this since it happened to cost 1000 dollars for us. Thanks for any info.
Well I figured out why it was so much. They charged us for 14 air filters according to the bill that my husband brought home wich brought it down about 250 bucks. They did not find anything wrong with the truck whatsoever. Does almost 800 dollars still seem outrageous? I know they charged for over 6 hours of labor and they only had the truck for 4 hours. I asked about that and they said they charge the hourly labor for each person that is working on the truck.
$800 is outrageous, too, but it wouldn't surprise me if the dealership could actually substantiate most of it simply based on the ridiculous rates that they charge for both labor and parts. However, based on the filter fiasco, I would remain very wary of this dealership and the bill.
And I don't know why they would need two technicians to work on the car unless something more than simple maintenance was being done.
Still, it's hard for me to fully judge without knowing exactly what services were performed.
I would ask the dealer to go over the bill with you, and explain the charges. It's hard to say what was done to the truck without seeing the bill, but it sounds like more than double what it should cost! I would also tell the dealer that you will be calling the Ford customer satisfaction department and be going over the bill with THEM!
I assume that your husband's truck is a 4x2, if that is the case the service is pretty minor. Click this link http://flm.dealerconnection.com/page...es&VSAReturn=1 to see what should have been done. I just called Star ford in Louisville, to check the price, and they quoted me $273.00. If they found nothing wrong, something is way out of wack!
A good friend of mine worked as a mechanic at a dodge dealership until he went to the army about a year ago. Well, while he was working there, i told him i was going to bring my truck to my ford dealership to get the 30,000 miles inspection which would have cost me around $400. He then told me EXACTLY what these dealerships do. "Check the fluids, and let it roll" he said. Sometimes the tires would be rotated but according to him, most of the time nothing is inspected properly and no work is actually done on the vehicle. I took his word and went out and bought a chiltons vehicle manual and have been doing my own mantainance. It is really suprising how much money you save. i.e. I change my own spark plugs for $30(price of the plugs) when the dealership wanted to charge me $200. I am changing my front brake pads saturday, i dont even want to know how much the dealer would charge for that!
The ONLY reason I'm going to Ford for my 5,000 mile service Thursday is to preserve my warranty in case something arrises in the future. The DAY my truck hits 36,000 on the odometer, I'm doing all my service myself from then on. The previous post was correct, these maintenance intervals can be completed in your own driveway and it will save you LOTS of $$$$.
Ken, really? So I can go to say, a Valvoline Instant Oil Change place or do it myself and not void the warranty? Hmm..sounds like I may have gotten some bad info. from my dealer. I'm going to look into this.
