Unknown Loose Connector?

Hi, I recently bought a Fleetwood Southwind motorhome built on the 1999 Ford F53 platform, with a 6.8L V10 Triton. (I hear F53 is fairly similar to the F-550, so I selected that for my profile.)

I was going to open two threads today, but one of my questions was already answered, many times: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1705039-hole-to-nowhere.html

What I’m here to ask about right now is this:

Unknown connector? Wider shot.

Closeup of unknown connector

I have no idea what this is, but my engine is throwing out several trouble codes, some of which may be related to this. (Main issue is random misfires on cylinder 3; previous owner says it’s something to do with a valve. Also O2 sensor code, O2 sensor heater code, diff feedback sensor downstream hose code. I’ll be opening another thread soon to discuss them as well. I only mention them here on the off-chance this may be related to one of those.)

Does anyone recognize this connector, or know where it belongs? Thanks for reading!

Do you have a valve located just up and to the left of the view shown in the first photo? It would have a green service cap on it.

If so, plug that line into the bottom fitting of that valve (unless it's broken off and stuck in your vacuum line's connector). Called the Canister Purge Valve. If off, it would cause EVAP and perhaps fuel mixture codes for sure.

Here's a shot of my 01 F250 that shows how mine is put together. Yours, being two yours older and a stripped chassis, may be a little different.

Thanks! The connector in your reply looks pretty much identical to the one I've got here, and your reply sent me on to make some more findings.

Heading back to the corner, there's something that looks like the Canister Purge Valve you mentioned.

Despite lacking a green cap, I'm pretty sure this is the CPV.

However, there's already something connected to it. It's a white connector, and is L-shaped.

Following this white one down, I noticed that it joins the bundle the mystery red one comes from. I've circled the CPV.

It's the same length as the white one. Maybe they're supposed to be swapped?

Probably not supposed to be swapped, as the white one is tied down to something going towards the CPV, whereas the red one is not tied down.

Over on the front-right, the two join here, and head down.

They run down to this black box.

It sits in the front-passenger-side wheel well.

The box they both connect to bears the ID FOTE-9E453-AA. Web searches say this is a vacuum canister or reservoir of some kind.

I'm still not positive where the red one (at this point, it must be vacuum hose) is supposed to go, but hopefully this extra info helps!

EDIT: I found this post on the forums while doing more research on the vacuum box's ID number… seems to be exactly the same issue, but it does not appear to have been resolved: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...tery-wire.html

If your red tube has a plug in it, I wouldn't worry about it for now. It's likely a line that was part of a bundled hose assembly used across different models and it wasn't used on yours.

Loose wire

Unused wire with dust cover installed? Or connector with wires yanked out. Should be able to figure out which it is.

It's not a "loose wire". It's a vacuum line.

I'd check to see if there is any vacuum at this connector while the engine is running.

If there is, plug it off with a piece of electrical tape and see if your issue goes away.

There might still be something to connect it to, but at this stage at least you'll know more about it.

If you never find something to connect it to, then make sure to enhance your electrical-tape plug so it stays on for a long time.
