Hello. My new to me 99 F250 has been a blast to own. The truck has powered locks, and when I try to use the fob or the buttons on the doors to unlock it, I can hear the motor working, and see the locks move a bit, but it will not cycle between locked and unlocked, or vice versa. It does this on all 4 doors of the vehicle. The key turns the lock fine, and moving the black lock tabs by hand I dont feel any resistance difference than on my fathers 99 F250, which the power locks work on. Not sure if its important or not, but if I press the button/door button rapidly, I get 3-5 'tries' before the motor stops trying to cycle the lock, and it gets weaker every time. Letting it sit for ~7 seconds, and it will try again another 3-5 times. Any thoughts on what I could check or try to make these work without putting the key in the door or moving them by hand? Thanks
Dave, by the power lock connector do you mean the connector plug? I apologize, I am not familiar with electrical systems so it is a bit of a foreign concept to me. Thanks
Seems like there is a contact in the lock motors that gets weak. It is a thermal switch basically. If the button is held down it gets hot and breaks contact to prevent overheating. These will get weak if they break contact a lot. Google it, seems like it was a relatively easy fix.
I have the same problem with my new to me '99 F250 SD. I hear the actuators wear out. I'm going to get a couple before I tear the door apart. On the plus side my dogs can't lock me out any more!
