doesn't mean it's still not defective. Most alternators you buy now days are rebuilt.
But the battery itself may be bad but not to the point of not starting the vehicle.

Well, 'new' means new to me. Seems he should say if it's a rebuilt or not. But yeah, point taken...it could be defective (hopefully NOT for this poor guy).
