My order for a 2023 F-150 LARIAT SuperCrew 4x4 was confirmed July 29. Now... I wait.
My primary purpose for the truck is to pull a 30' travel trailer. I'd like to equip the trailer with a rear-view camera and TPMS. What accessories do I need to buy to integrate these items?
My order went in on 27 July. If anyone hears any rumors as to a possible timeline... all I've gotten so far is a 45 day email telling me they still have supply issues so be patient.
7/28 Dealer order 8/1 Ford confirmation 9/15 Build week of 10/17 with VIN
KR standard 2WD PB Max tow 360assist & camera
If I were you, I'd check to see if it is too late to exchange the Max Tow for the standard 3.73 rear end. If you do a search of internet, you will see a ton of folks with axle failure on the Max Tow rear end.

I saw you on that thread also. Have you had the axle problem?
For those interested, it is a bolt on the Max Tow axle that shears- both axle ratios.
Most all that I saw were MY2021.
I don’t know if Ford has fixed.
Does not appear to cause great problems, but truck is deemed non-drivable until axle replaced.
Too late, I haves VIN.
Will hope for the best- Ford fixed, Ford recall or not too inconvenienced.
I do not know what percentage of these axles fail.

I have Max Tow axles on my truck but with 6800 miles on it, I haven't had the problem, yet. I do tow and it would be a real inconvenience to be many hours/days away from home and my local dealer and have the axle bolt break. If I couldn't drive my truck I don't know how I would get my travel trailer home if it was going to take 4-6 weeks for replacement axle. For this reason, I want Ford to get a solution and recall out ASAP. That is no small list of failures on the Forum thread that I linked, over 40 I believe on just that one forum thread and there are similar threads on other forums, also. I would like to know what the actual failure rate is on them; one person has had three broken axle bolts on one truck.
Looking like all you get for your money when you order Max Tow is less payload and a high risk of axle failure.
“Looking like all you get for your money when you order Max Tow is less payload and a high risk of axle failure.”
Supposedly something adds 2-3k pounds towing. I’ve read the axle (liability) and larger breaks for Powerboost models. After a lot of deliberation, I went for increased stopping capacity.
I have no idea what threshold triggers a recall. The other tread does not suggest safety issues like airbags, gas tanks, etc.
Interestingly, in my payload research Max Tow weight liability vs trailer tow is basically 4 gallons of gas. The Ford tow guide weight appears to be added weight over truck with no hitch receiver.

When owners are told they cannot drive the truck because it is a safety issue and they have leave the truck at the dealer for 6 weeks waiting for a replacement axle, that qualifies it as a safety issue worthy a recall. For non-Powerboost drive trains, Max Tow also adds an extra rear leaf spring, but Powerboost (of which mine is one) already gets the extra leaf because of the extra 500 lb of weight of the PB drive train. Max Tow adds 1300 lb towing capability for Powerboost (2600 lb. for 5.0 and 2700 lb. 3.5 EcoBoost) according to Ford's towing guide, though in most towing applications payload restricts towing well before trailer weight. In my case, the 900 lb. tongue weight of my 7000 lb travel trailer (after mounting two batteries and two LP tanks on the tongue and putting electrical, water, sewer hook-ups, tire tools and jack in the front pass-thru storage) only leaves me with about 150 lb of available payload after 350 lb of driver and passenger weight. That extrapolates back to a max trailer weight of about 8000 lb. if you work the math backwards and apply that extra 150 lb to additional tongue weight; even though the trailer guide tells me I can tow 12,300 lb. In this case, the 1300 lb. extra towing capability doesn't provide any benefit; leaving the only real benefit being larger brakes at the risk of a broken axle.
