Speed sensor questions

I'm not a 7.3psd owner. I'm wanting to know does the ZF5 have a speed sensor that connects to the speedometer or is it located somewhere else?

depends on what year. 88 to 91 has a speed sensor on the speedometer cable to work the cruise control. 92 went to digital speedometer and newer uses a sensor in the rear axle to run the speedometer instead of a cable..

So if I wanted to swap a power stroke into my 86 will the older transmission work with the newer engine?
Main reason I'm asking is because I want to do the swap but I want to try to keep the gauge cluster original. If it's doable

it can still be done, you would just have to use a 88 to 91 ZF-5 with speedometer cable port for a two wheel drive, or use your 86 transfer case on the powerstroke trans if you have 4 wheel drive. .

Okay and I'm guessing I'd have to already have a standard transmission in order to use the 86 transfer case? It's currently an automatic 4x4.

a ford full size truck transfer case don't care what trans it is bolted to.
so your current transfer case will bolt to the diesel 4 wheel drive ZF5 speed .
