Door hinge replacement. Backing plate?

Im currently replacing the door hinges, trying to do this without removing the door. Seems feasible, as I was removing the lower hinge bolts from the cab it seemed like there was a backing plate that is free floating. I would hate to pull that last bolt and for the plate to fall in to the abyss of the truck and really struggle to get this project done.

Is there a backing plate for the hinges inside of the cab?

I had to repair my upper hinge and I was able to reach inside there by taking the kickpanel off. I want to say there is a captive nut plate in there, I don't recall, I made a much larger one to reinforce the whole area and that fixed the issue. Take off your kickpanel and you'll have access to it.

I just did this on my bare cab.

There is a plate in there with captive nuts, but the plate itself is able to rotate, you'd rotate it on one side then tilt it to take it out. It can't just fall out if you don't rotate the whole thing. Taking the bolts out closest to the door last should prevent it
