Extended Range XLT Base for 2023?
Extended Range XLT Base for 2023?
Good morning, everyone.
Yesterday, I got an email from Ford asking me to respond to a survey so they could get a better idea of people's plans when they opened the order banks. Something stuck out to me, and I unfortunately didn't think to take a screenshot. The survey is coded to a specific link in my email, so I can't get to it again.
One of the pages asked me which trim level I would likely be ordering. There was a list of trims, including Pro, XLT, XLT Plus, Lariat, and Platinum. But what stuck out to me was the range configurations in parentheses after the trim listing. Pro was something like (Standard-Range and Extended-Range for FLEET ONLY). The surprising part was the XLT had (Standard-Range and Extended-Range) like all of the other trims. To me, this implied that you may be able to order the extended-range battery without the $10K upcharge for the XLT Plus trim level.
If the battery upcharge is still $10K, this would put the cheapest extended-range truck below $70K, which is better than the $74K for 2022 because you had to get the higher trim package with the battery. Sorry for the confusing post, and I wish I got screenshots to better explain things. But this could be good news for those of us who want the larger battery without paying for the rest of the bells and whistles.

After the round of price increases, right now XLT starts at $59,474. Clicking the box for extended range battery increases the price to an astounding $80,974. Apparently if you want the extended battery on an XLT you now need to pay $21,000 extra for it. Un-f***ing-believable. And EV is supposedly the wave of the future. A base XLT Lightning starts at $2,000 more than my loaded '21 Lariat gas cost.
While I wouldn't mind owning one, the price is completely unacceptable. Can you hear us Ford??? Probably not, enough "gotta have it" people will purchase the first couple years of production. After that who knows, lots of variables in the future including competition. It needs to be priced same as an equivalent XLT gas truck.
Gas XLT's are automatically extended range, I have done over 640 miles per tank in my 2013 F150 5.0, twice the Lightning extended range and triple the standard range.

I had a reservation placed back in October, but there's no chance I'll go through with an order if prices stay this high. I could find the money, but it would be a stretch, and the value just isn't there against other offerings. I could get a Rivian R1T for the same money as an XLT extended range.
