I fixed the leaking rear tank on my truck (installed a used tank). When I filled the tank and switched to using the rear tank I started leaking out of the front tank fill. It seams that the rear tank is pumping gas into the front tank and then over flowing out of the fill port. Is there maybe some sort of mechanical switch, three way, or something that could be routing the gas from the rear tank to the front tank instead of to the EFI directly. The truck does run fine on the rear tank now that the lines are not kinked. I noticed the problem when the guage dropped 1/4 tank on the 15 mile trip to work.
Thanks,
CURT
I read the tech bulletin on the fuel tank and selector valve replacement and if there is a Ford engineer reading this post then he is welcome to come over and watch me kick the tires on the old beast for a while.
If anyone has ever had the rear fuel tank pump gas through the front tank and out the front fill port and has solved the problem please let me know how you did it.
I have a 94 F150 and had a similar problem. My rear tank would service the front, but would never overflow. I took it to the dealer (under warrenty) and they replace a fuel pump P/N F417-9A407-FX. I am not sure what tank it was in, but the problem was fixed. I hope this helps you out.
My 1992 F-250 had a recall done on it to fix what you describe. It was recall # "93s68" (fuel pressure regulator & check valve) It covers 1990-1992 And some 1993 pickups. Hope this helps.
