Looking at some of the trucks pictured on here, I started wondering. When did Ford start putting padded dashes in the F series trucks? Also, when did seat belts become standard equipment?
It was just one of those crazy things you try to remember. Dads 64 IIRC had a steel dash, the 72 had a pad. Funny how you can remember that stuff but can't find the wrench you just sat down!
IIRC I think padded dash's were optional in 65 and seatbelts became standard in '67, my 66 F100 had no seat belts, I ended up putting some in out of a 73 I scrapped, and that damn wrench, did you find mine too?! Oh, that's right I sat it in the fridge when I got a beer!
In 1964 they offered the "Safety Package" as optional equipment. This included the padded dash and the padded visors. Upper left corner of this particular page, however, it was available on all F series from 100 through 1100, C series, N series, etc. but not the B series (Bus). No mention anywhere of seat belts even as an option.
In 1966 the Padded Dash was Standard equipment but there was a Delete option for the F250 4x4 in that year.

In 1966 the drivers and passengers lap belts became standard equipment. No mention anywhere of a Delete Option on those.
Padded dashes on trucks were available at least as early as 1959. My 59 F250 Custom Cab had one as part of an optional “safety package” which included seat belts, I believe padded visors, and I can’t remember what if anything else.
