I think that the 4r100 has a 20 bolt pan
and it is larger in size than the 4r70w

dont take my word for it

So what should be the expected life out of these trannies, under normal operation, and with 30K flushes?

Would 150K be to much to expect?

Talking

I just bought a 99` F-150 Supercab Lariat with 139000 miles on it, two owners, original transmission, I couldn't tell the difference between my truck shifting and any of the 03's i test drove. So I would say that it should last quite a bit farther than 150k unless you are really pushing the limits between your 30k flushes.

Welcome to FTE!

Thanks for the reassurance. I just got this vehicle about a month ago, and with 77K on the clock, plus I'm a shifty guy (i'm not a big fan of auto's), I was concerned about the life of the 4r70w in my S-crew.

If it weren't for my wife, I'd would be in manual tranny now, dang women....

I just worked on a 1997 F150 with the 4R70W and 370,000 kms (about ummm 230,000 miles) on it. It is used a bush truck and gets lots of hard use. I dont remember ever seeing it in the shop for transmission problems.

Well I've had the truck in my possesion for 40k miles, from 111k back I don't know the service history. Judging from all I've fixed, all they did was change the oil on time and not hot rod it, which is better than most I guess.

But it's never left me on the side of the road, the V8 is still very healthy and hopefully after I get the tranny fluid/filter changed it'll be okay. If not, it's still cheaper to install a new transmission than buy a new truck.
