Tranny?

I'm curious as to which auto tranny is considered the "best". 4R100 or the 4R70w?

what do you mean best???
the 4R100 is a heavier duty tranny than the 4R70w.

I have the 4R100 in my 7700 and i like the fact that it can handle more tourque and strain in case i will ever need it.

my 2 cents

Your not ignorant.
probably the 4R70W. but check the door sticker inside the driverside door. there is a door decoder on this website that will tell you everything you want to know.

U= 4R70w
E= 4R100

Hope that helps.

Sorry for the confusion....I was just curious as to which of the 2 above listed trannys are considered better....

i.e. which one is the strongest, etc.

I currently have the 4r70w in my S-crew, but i'm pretty sure I've seen a few 4r100's in some S-crews as well, I was just wondering the major differences, if there are any.

From what I have read, the 4R70W is a wider ratio tranny that is supposed to hold up to 700 lb of torque.
The 4R100 has a higher stall speed converter and is supposed to be good for up to 1000 lbs of torque.
The 4R100 is a beefier unit that comes behind Power Stroke diesels, Supercharged Lightnings and Harley F150's as well as the 7700lb F150's.
I am sure that it was probably an option on all V8's.

Is there another way to determine which tranny besides the door sticker. I saw in a previous post with pictures of the pans. My door sticker is a U but according to the pictures I have a 4R100.
