New owner of a 2011 F150 Lariat. Noticed on a recent trip through SLC that the gps mapping is out of date, so I begin researching how to update. I learned that this truck has NEVER had its orignal sync updated per Ford's website. Made an appointment to have the sync updated and get a couple of extra keys cut/programmed. Picked up the truck today and the sync upgrade is complete as Ford's website now says I have Sync gen 1, version 4.6 installed. Okay, great......now how do I get the mapping updates? Do I really only have the option of buying the CDs from Ford for $150? Guy at the dealership thought it would be free for me, but its apparently not. Spent $500+ this week on: 2 new keys w/remote start system (my truck didn't come with it) for $69 plus another $50 to have them cut. $150 for the Sync update, $225 to try and program the new keys and antenna to the truck, and another $75 for them to figure out what the door code is to lock/unlock the driver's door. Now I'm finding out that I have to buy CDs with updated maps? I thought there was a USB download or SD card I could swap out? Any advice is appreciated
if the CDs are reusable, any interest in selling them? I'd rather have 2019 maps than what I already have.
I wish they were, but as said the are locked by vin and a 1 time code. That is the last update for the Sync 1 Nav system period, there will be no new updates for the system.
Well, I guess I'll have to use what I got for now.
Yeah, you are pretty stuck with that system. I am exploring adding an Android head unit. There are some nice ones on Ali Express. I heard the big touch screen ones aren't that great.
