Cool Truck Vandalized

Earlier this week (Tuesday Night), some idiot decided to break into my SD. There was nothing visible in the truck and nothing of value in the truck for him to take. He stole maybe $100 worth of cd's and my bluetooth. Oh, he stole my dang owner's manual (I am mostly mad about that). Anyways, I have found out how easy these trucks are to break into and want to stop it from happening again (considering the dealer quoted me $1600 to fix it up good as new ). So here is the question.

I want to put a security system in the truck with remote start. Now, i have read many forums and even started one a month or so ago on this topic. I would like to know if anyone is using the Factory Ford System w/ remote start? I know people speak very highly about the Viper systems, but i can't find out anything concrete on the Ford Systems. I have the part numbers and a brief description, but i would like a little more than that to compare with other set ups.

Also, Ford sells Jimmy Jammers to prevent people from popping out the locks to get into the truck. Do they work and are they worth the effort to put in? I would appreciate any help on these topics. Thanks

js139,

I do not have any experience with the Ford alarms, i do know they are an A/M system rebranded by Ford as a dealer installed item. The Viper alarms as are other DEI alarms are rated well.

The Jimmi Jammers are easy to install and do provide another layer of protection. Vehicle security measures are all about "layers"

Film window tint
Jimmi Jammers www.jimmijammer.com
Disable switch (ie Ravelco www.ravelco.com)
Alarm to make noise
Tacking device

Hope this helps

Thanks Black Hat, That link at the bottom was helpful. The jimmijammer is completly different than was described to be at the dealership. So when my truck was broken into, the screwdriver was pushed into the locking mechanism and the tumblers, but never got to the back of the door handle. I assume it broke the tumblers and allowed him to unlock the door because he broke the lock. That would lead me to believe that the Jimmijammer would not have prevented this break in because he worked on the lock and not the handle. Am i correct in assuming this? Thanks

I cannot say for sure, but the jimmijammers also re-inforce the lock mechanism. The thiefs are trying to get to the lever inside the door that unlatches the door. They do this by either breaking the lock or the lever.
Remember, security is about layers and trying to make your truck harder to break into than someone elses. If a professional theif really wants your truck or whats in it they will get it. You are trying to get the theif to move on to an easier target.

Good luck

Have had the Excursion vandalized twice in the past two years both times the passenger front window was broke. The first time was with the factory alarm, when my wife got to the vehicle which I guess was too close to the ghetto the horn was honking and nothing was missing. I had an OBD2 reader and gps in the glove box. Second time was a couple months ago parked at the St. Paul Conservatory parking lot. When we got back to the vehicle the alarm was not going but we were away from the vehicle for about an hour in a half. This time the thugs got off with my wifes Coach purse and my check book. Again the valuables in the glove box were left alone.

So figure out that one. With the factory alarm the window was broke and nothing stolen. With the Python remote start/alarm a purse and check book was stolen.

I have the Python alarm with remote start, and also added an additional LED light on the dash which flashes anytime the ignition is off, got this light for like 5 bucks...and it gives the appearance that I have 2 alarm systems. Never had a single break-in....but I live in a small mountain town. No experience with the stock security system.
