Thanks for the info webmaster. i have a 67 ford and i have recieved many offers from that nigerian. He sent me a check and i turned it in to the local police dept. im not sure who he sent my email adress but i now get a whole lot of spam crap now.
There are a bunch of those nigerian scams just do a search on google. I was showing my friend about it and he hadn't heard of them either. There are plenty of websites dedicated to show people all the different scams they use. They tried to get me on yahoo messenger once and I didn't know anything about those scams and wondered why some nigerian was wanting to talk to me. I think all those scams are bots (my defininition of a bot - programs written by someone that seek out the innocent with the intent to distribute unwanted material and/or to deceive oneself into gaining prosperity for themselves) So imho the pro's of having the email addresses removed from post far out weigh the con's. Ken is just trying to do his best for all of us and he is doing an excellent job.
Regarding the Nigerian scam, the police got involved with my situation & have traced the guy to Vancouver, Canada!! They figure if 10% of the people respond to this guy he;s making $100,000's a year! He drives a new Escalade, got the big house, but some Canadian loop hole in the law allows this to go on, very embarrasing for Canada!
Keeping the E-mail address out of threads is most likey the best thing you could do to this site.. I do have some good programs in place on my computer to keep these guys out and it does work, but doing what you are doing puts one more in place.. After one of my progams gets full I have to go to and and delete them.. You would not believe what shows up there.. Again thanks for looking out for us.. It's one more step to keep those idiots at bay..

I don't think I saw an answer to the question of an earlier post whether the old trick of adding spaces between your username, the @, and the domain name would foil the bots.
Or if something like Username "at" domaindotcom would foil them.

Rezvani's Latest Post-Apocalyptic Monster Is a Ford F-150 Raptor Underneath
I've been aware of this email problem for a while and don't understand how the spiders or bots recognize all e-mail addresses. What does it need to see in order to recognize an email address? Also why can't we be smarter than it and still post e-maill addresses in plain english? In other words like this fake example:
Please do not post fake email addresses. The spider programmers are very creative. Please do not post email addresses! Turn on your system email and use it. If you have an email address you want to share, have users email you for it.
Like I stated in my previous post, I have been aware of this e-mail problem for a while (Translation: several years) and I am completly aware of the rule. I was just curious enough about it to ask about how spiders and bots work and whether your system works like them to detect an e-mail address to delete.
Also I do notice web addresses being posted. Doesn't this cause the same multiple page scooping effect by the spiders and bots? If FTE doesn't want to explain any details, then just say so, and I'll take my curiousity somewhere else.
There are sites out there that discuss things like spiders, and information etc you can find with a search. We are a truck enthusiast site. Email addresses are valuable to the spammers. Web addresses are not. Our programming is proprietary.
