GM did similar with the late 4L80E/85E and the late 4L65E/70E.
correct, the input shaft sensor was needed in 4t65e, 4t80e, 4l60e, 4l80e to allow the transmission to PWM the torque converter and that also became invaluable for helping the transmissions determine shift-health with shift times and pressures etc over time better.

I worked at the Chrysler dealer in the early 2000’s and some of their transmissions had input and output sensors. It didn’t help the transmissions last any longer.

Chryslers need the help they can get, especially the leading up to FCA take over. Still do, but those late 2000s were really.......
