speed sensor?
I've got a 1999 Ranger. It is a 3.0 V-6 with the automatic transmision. The speedometer won't work until you reach about 35 MPH, and the transmision won't shift until the speedometer starts working. Also, the ABS light has come on. I'm an old man (66 years old) and if it ain't got points and condensors, I'm lost. I'm thinking it's the speed sensor in the rear end, but I need some ideas.. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I think you've got it-
What I would do is remove the sensor and clean the metal shavings off of it. Then re-install it to see if it made a difference.
If it's not worth it to you, a replacement speed sensor may cost under $20 if you want to go ahead and just replace it.
