I haven’t been able to find a Haynes yet for this truck, and my interwebs searches are turning out fruitless… so why not see if anyone wants to play the “what is that thing” game!
Item #1 - it is located in the aft starboard corner of the engine bay above the AC stuff… it has a broken vacuum line and I don’t know what it does…
#1 is the recirculate door actuator. It moves when you move the HVAC lever from normal to "max" A/C.
In normal operation, all the heat A/C and vent air comes from the grille around the wipers. There is a chamber in there, the air goes to the passenger side, through the fan, and into the ductwork. In "max" mode that little actuator gets vacuum and it pulls on that lever and closes a door which blocks the outside air from the wiper grille area, and opens the ductwork and the fan to inside the cab. The intake is on the pass side behind the glove box.
You are a gentleman and a scholar Dave, thank you. I was at Autozone yesterday asking about fuel line and vacuum line for this truck and they kept asking “what size”.
As far as Vacuum line, does it really matter? Would it be plausible to just by 20’ of a -one size fits all- line and just cut and fit it as needed around the engine?
I want to drop the front gas tank soon and check it out, hopefully I don’t have to get a new one, but I am prepared to if need be. I assume it would be wise to change out the fuel line as well, is that a given or something to check out and may not be needed? I am pretty sure it is a metal line for most of it, but the Autozone guys winced when I said that, do most people replace it with a rubber line from the tank?
Thanks in advance… I’ll have mystery item #2 here in a min 😬
The line from the engine to the brake booster is special heavy wall line, though I have used regular vacuum line in a emergency. The heavy wall keeps it from collapsing.
I would see what you need, and snip little pieces off for the different sizes and take them with you to the store. You want them to fit snugly so they won't fall off.
When you get the fuel line, it's usually 5/16 but sometimes it could be 3/8. Just make sure you get fuel line. It's made to stand up to the ethanol in the fuel. If you use regular vacuum line, after a year or so it will get hard as a rock and will start leaking. The hose will say "fuel" on it and of course it's more expensive.
Ok, that is a good idea, I will just take the broken ones in… although I have a sneaking suspicion there are some lines that are just missing outright.
I will definitely get fuel rated lines. If the lines going from the tanks to the engine bay are metal, is is best to just keep them or run a new rubber fuel line to replace them? If I am mistaken and the lines are already rubber, then clearly replacing them isn’t an issue.
This item is located in the lower port rear portion of the engine bay, under the steering column and under the master cylinder. I assume it has something to do with the brakes, a manifold of some sort maybe.
The mystery: what is it? Why does it have an electrical connection? And why is the electrical connection not connected?
c
circled is the connector pointing at where it plugs in…

That is the brake pressure differential valve. Details here:
If the wire was disconnected, there’s a good chance the warning circuit was triggered. If the warning light illuminates with the wire reconnected, your brake system may need some love. The parking brake also turns on the light, so make sure that is released.
In the other thread the brake light problem got resolved, but if the brakes work properly, I would not worry about the brake warning indicator not being centered in the proportioning valve if you have other things to worry about that are more serious.
Thanks gents, it is amazing how knowledgeable you guys are as a whole. I will read through those threads and get a good understanding of how it works 🍻.
I really need a Chiltons or something, but if y’all don’t mind answering questions, I will keep asking
this little tube is located on the frame mid lower starboard side of the engine, down the wheel well from the battery. I can only assume a hose plugs on it… but where does the other end of said hose go?
I'll guess that tube is part of the removed evap return line to the tank.
BTW, can you please add the info about your truck to your "sig" like some of us have, so we always have an idea about what truck your talking about. Thanks,
You can do that from the "user control panel" by clicking on your name in the upper right corner.
