Hey all.
79 302 Ranger.Auto. PO replaced the factory carb with what looks like a Amazon special with ele choke.
I have adjusted the mixture screws 2 out on each side from full in .
I adjusted the choke but nothing seems to happen. idle does go down a little when I press on the plate. Theres supposed to be a screw under the choke but I'll be dipped if i can find it.
The fast idle screw seems to do nothing?
truck starts fine, but runs at about 1500 till i kick down then its closer to like 1k. I cannot seem to get this thing tuned right. Choke is hooked to some plug on the firewall , ill get a close pic of it later today but, you can see the orange wire here in the pic:
Not on my truck but I put an Amazon carb on the motor home generator and it did not work out well. It was about two years ago and we were taking an Indiana to Idaho trip and would need the generator for the A/C in the MH. Called Cummings/Onan to make sure I would get the correct carb but they did not have one and couldn't locate one anywhere so went the Amazon route. It run but not as well as the OEM, ran rich and would surge especially when the A/C load kicked in. It was also noticeably louder than the original.
I decided to replace it if possible so went back to Cummings/Onan to verify part number and gave them the history of replacement carb. Tech I talked to said those symptoms are common when using the Amazon carbs. Local dealer got me a new OEM carb I will pick up this week. If you cannot find anything else wrong I would for sure replace the carb. Jim.
