I'm having choke trouble. 1st, bear with me, I don't know much about chokes
The truck has a 5.8w with a new 4 bbl 1406 edelbrock. The choke will punch down but not enough, and then the next time I give it gas, the idle jumps right back up. This happens hot or cold. I'm always punching it down at intersections. Sometimes it revs real high, sometimes just above normal idle. I've adjusted the screw on the right (drivers) side, but can't adjust it anymore.
I've noticed 2 clips for electrical connections on the pass side. I've got nothing connected to them though.
I'd almost prefer to have the chock disconnected, I don't drive her in the winter.
ok. I just thought it was weird that it wasn't working at all when I put the carb on- at the time I thought it needed those electrical hook ups. My buddy messed with it (I don't know what he did), and suddenly it was idling high. I would have thought that if it was electric, it wouldn't work at all without power.
I think your pal compensated the disconnected choke with his gun-decked 'adjustments'.
Hook up the choke.. a ground and a hot with the ignition on. Go to edelbrocks website for an instruction/installation manual for the 1406. All you're doing right now is fighting against the carb that isn't doing what it was designed and engineered to do.
