Power steering issues

After many years, my truck is about done. The only issue we have right now is the power steering. We have a GM power steering pump to a ford crown Victoria front end. We put the pressure valve in the pump to make the pressure compatible with the rack and pinion, but my steering is really tight. To the left there is some amount of assistance, but to the right, it has zero power steering. I have read posts previously, that this combination did result in pretty tight steering, but there was some assist which I am more than ok with, but this current situation with the issue being one sided makes me think there has to be a problem somewhere. Anyone dealt with this or have any thoughts? It is a "new" (reman) rack, but I am wondering if maybe I got a lemon and just need to replace the rack again.

You can adjust the pressure in a GM pump. GM used the standard Saginaw pump for all lines, engine sizes, body styles, etc. They would shim the regulator to adjust for the application. If you look at the back of the pump where the pressure line goes in, that is the pressure regulator. You can unscrew that from the pump. Sometimes there are several thin washer like shims behind it. I can't remember if you have to add shims or remove shims to raise the pressure. I google search might help with that.

Jack the front up so the wheels are off the ground .
Then with the engine idling turn the steering from lock to lock a number of times , i reckon the system may be full of air .
Certainly worth a try anyway .

Yeah, we have messed with shims and didn't have any luck. We have tried absolutely everything we can think of and are just stumped! I am really hoping that the rack they sent me is bad, because even though we have been ripping our hair out trying to figure it out, at least if it's the rack, it's an easy fix after wasting hours trying to figure it out. I appreciate your thoughts, keep them coming if you have any other suggestions!

We did bleed the air out also. We also drained everything out and refilled in case there was some kind of debris blocking something...nothin. This is driving us absolutely crazy, I have a message in with the place I bought the rack from, hopefully they will have some thoughts, or at least we can try a warranty replacement to see if it is the rack.

We do have a reducer flow valve in...I had read somewhere else about cutting the spring, but then saw someone else say that it's a bad idea, so I didn't know what to think. We do have a spare spring, so it may be worth a try... We are willing to try just about anything at this point. Thanks for your thoughts!
