Just got all my parts back from the machine shop and I'm looking over everything. I noticed some pitting/missing metal on the rear one. Could this contribute to a rear main leak? Should I get a replacement cap?
You are supposed to daub sealer on each side in that area anyway. So I don't see it affecting too much.
X2 that is on the oil pan seal side not the rear main seal or the bearing.
BTW if you get a new rear main bearing cap you will need to take the block & all bearing caps back to the machine shop and have them line hone it to make it true again with the other caps.

You need a thin smear of sealer where the two main caps come together metal to metal. This is not the oil pan side, this is between the OD of the rubber seal, and the outer part of the main cap.
