I have a 1992 F350 2wd dually with a 351w/E4OD. The transmission is toasted.
Can I use any other transmission without having to change out the computer, or buy a different drive shaft?
The E4OD is an electronically controlled transmission by the PCM. So yes any other transmission would require a different PCM. At the expense you are going through, the cost of a reman PCM is insignificant. We have an X Ford Engineer FTE member that worked on the E4OD and he can perhaps confirm your transmission is in fact toasted. Diagnostic codes might help you or start a new thread if you need to confirm the transmission condition.
LOL just saw where Mark answered you. He is your man.
Yes. Transmission started slipping on way home from. Work. Once it was going 65 it was doing okay. Got off freeway and it didn't want to move. I floorboarded it and finally got it moving, drove it 7 blocks home floored, doing about 30 mph. Got home drained fluid, changed filter put new fluid in and it hasn't moved since

Yes and No.
Being a F350, your trans probably has better parts than one from a F150, example: planetary gears 4 vs 3.
1994 and earlier trans have diodes on the solenoid pack in the trans.
1995 and later the diodes are in the computer, not in the trans.
If you put a 1995 and later trans in your truck with your 1992 computer, you need to change things(solenoid pack or computer), otherwise you cook your computer.
