Hello, I am in the process of swapping my 1996 f350 from the E4OD to a ZF5.
I have all the parts and I was even able to track down the manual transmission wiring harness for the truck. I am having trouble getting the truck to start with what I have installed. I have everything installed and I can’t get the truck to crank.
I think it may be related to the transmission harness that I have. There is a third connector that I have no idea what it goes to. One connector for the reverse lights, one for the transfer case and then I can’t figure out where the last connector goes.
could the clutch safety switch be an issue as well? I though if I left this tied up with the factor jumper it would be fine, is that not the case?
thank you in advance for any advise, I am itching to get this thing in the road!
@knottyrope is that what the third connector is supposed to be tied to? If so, where would that be in the transmission? I cannot find another connector on my zf5

I just recently completed my swap in my 95. I didn’t install a clutch safety switch and left the auto harness intact. I took the auto gear selector right off the E4OD (make sure it’s selected into P or N) and left it plugged into the harness, and zip tied it into the frame with the existing harness loom for rear end. I know the clutch safety switch is a good idea that should be installed though.
so if I were to put the auto harness back in, I believe I can splice in the connector from my manual for the reverse lights, and the transfer case connection stays the same. I already sold my auto trans and forgot to take the shift sensor off of it. Is is possible for me to jump some wires in this case, or do I have to have that sensor?
I would still prefer to use the manual trans harness that I bought, but I’m starting to think I may have purchased the wrong one at this point.
