Is this possible? The only differences in the trannys that I can see are the wiring hook ups. I have a harness to make the changes and I belive if I switch a few pins around then it will work. But im not sure. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
John.
also the AODE was a car tranny, meaning the gearing and load it could handle will be different compared to the E4OD that was built for a truck. why the swap?
A buddy of mine had a bronco that the e4od went out in and I have a aode that came out of an 4x4 f150. So I was wondering if we could do the swap to save him money. But he decided today that he would just have to e4od rebuilt.
Looking at the 2 trannys side by side you can deffently tell a deffernce in the 2. The E4OD looks beifier. They both are electronic overdrive trannys though. From what I've herd and what people tell me the tranny out of the f150 is called a AODE. There was another name for it that they said but I don't remeber it.
Go to http://www.becontrols.com/tech/bectcsinstall.pdf There is a wiring diagram to connect AODE/4R70-W trannys to TCS controller, it will help you. But the best is obtain everything from the donor
It's a 4R70W if it's out of a 94 truck. Crossmembers are different, at least at every truck I've looked at. The E4OD comes around to the outside of the frame on the passenger side, and the 4R70W goes between the frame rails with two braces, like on a 5 speed. I think the 4R70W is shorter too, so you may need different driveshaft(s).
From what I've read, the AODE was an earlier version and in cars only.

There where some old AOD used on light trucks like mine. But they don't last long enough, specially towing. I'm not sure if the AODE where used on trucks I guess no, but todays trucks using V6 4.2L engine use also 4R70W, which is basically same AODE.
