I could have asked this before ? Are any of the solenoids in the E4OD pulse modulated, or are they all on and off using 12volts for control?
What would it take to eliminate the computerized controller and just use a switch set up to manually shift the transmission?
I'm tired of the worthless PCM in these trucks.
I'm using the Quick2 controller from Bauman to run the E4OD that I installed in my '79 F-350. It works great and the programming(using a laptop PC) is straightforward but I spent a lot of time getting it just right. It uses a TPS, speed sensor and the MLPS.

I looked on there and they have a newer version than mine and it's $455 for the controller. The wiring harness is shown as being $140-160 depending on the types of connectors that are on your transmission.
After I placed my order they called me just to double check that I had ordered all of the correct connectors.
Wow a chunk of change. I won't be doing that anytime soon, I'd just like to replace the truck with some old 50's or 60's thing. Just tired of over electronized junk, that can not be trusted.
The controller wasn't cheap but it is nicely designed, small and it mounted easily inside of the glove box. I did all of the setup with their software on a PC but it wasn't very difficult and so far after 4 years it has been reliable. One nice thing on the E4OD is that if the electronic control would conk out at least you've still got 4th gear with no lockup and high line pressure. Nothing gets hurt and it can make it home.
There might be other options on the market that are less expensive too from TCI or something but the Bauman is the only one that I've used.
No it won't shift at all without electronic control. The transmission would just start out in and remain in 4th with high line pressure and no lock up. The computer does more than just tell the transmission when to shift with the E4OD. It also modulates the line pressure to control the shift quality and it does those things based on inputs for RPM, throttle position and vehicle speed. It also measures the temperature of the fluid in the pan and it can detect excessive slip.
