I have the original Baumann TCS on my 350 and the latest US Shift Quick 4 on my Lightning. You can't beat being able to tune it yourself.

Thank you, I have been looking at the Quick 4. read a lot of good about it. Saw you can have different custom tunes for it and a lot of play in setting it up.

Hope you don't mind me reviving and old thread but it's the topic I need.
91 E350 with the 5.8 gas and the stock E4)D trans. After too much continuing trouble with the injection and fuel system in general I'm swapping to a carb. Not being technically minded on electronic controls or using computers to program things with, I'm looking for a shift controller to emulate the stock controls. Not needing anything performance related and a low price matters as long as it's reliable. Plug and play would be nice but I have no problem if I need to do some fab work to integrate the original TPS or to add one which might come with the controller. I'm currently browsing Ebay and see many options there so I'd like some guidance about which one to go with and why.

@Mastercarpentry you could try an 1991-1994 Ford Diesel Transmission Control Unit(TCM) factory, will have the correct 60-pin plug for your harness.
It takes TPS, VSS, POWER, possibly crank or rpm, cannot remember.
It controls E4OD only.
I picked one up for $50, planning on using for a 460 carb with E4OD.

Buy a rebuilt C-6 to go with your carb conversion or better yet find another truck.

This is not going to work out to your satisfaction most likely in either cost or reliability.

Thanks for the super-fast response and detailed info. I have all the sensors intact and new or nearly new so this seems feasible.

Well to begin with the trans was rebuilt not so long ago so I want to keep it. The van is in extremely good shape with sentimental value so it's not going away. I'm also semi- retired and poor. I would like to know more about why you think this isn't a good idea in more detail as it seems many others are happy using aftermarket controllers.

The part in red, will make it hard for you, with a retirement budget.

I'm retired, poor & cheap.

But I have technical skill to make **** work

All aftermarket controllers are not plug & play. They will require some sort of setup & adjustment, ie, programing. (And some expensive-assed harnesses)

I could hack the factory diesel trans unit described above, but if you can't deal with factory efi, I'd have doubts you could make it work.

If you can find one, do the work to make it function, that's great.

It's just that carb conversions to solve all problems are almost never what they're cracked up to be.

I can't see a factory diesel trans controller work. Shift timing would be way too soon.

Although I would agree that EFI needs more tuning and hard to believe it's a plug and play, but the trans controllers are much less complex. As long as you got good sensors, it is plug/play.
