Voltage backfeed to led bulb

Since I have rewired my 61, a weird issue has come up. I am using a blue led bulb for the high beam indicator and when the headlights are on in low beam mode there is a 4.5 volt back feed to the indicator light causing it to glow. The bleed is coming from the headlight bulbs, I am running H4 bulbs and have tried switching the bulbs to a different set with the same results and this includes using sealed beams too. So my question is can I use a resistor to defeat the low voltage bleed while allowing 12V to get through when the High beams are on?

Are you using the factory head light switch and dimmer?
Did you have this same set up for bulbs before the rewire?

How do you have the grounds for each head light bulb?
My 81 F100 has a ground for each head light to the radiator support and the park / turn lights go to the same ground.
If you dont have a ground for each head light close to the bulbs you might try running a ground to each bulb close to them.
Was the ground area painted before the screw was put in? That maybe an issue too.

I cant answer about the resister but thinking it would give off heat so need to watch for that.

Just a thought are you running the head lights thru relays?
If not may want to for 2 reasons
1- it will make the head lights brighter as it now gets full battery volts.
2- it takes the amp load running H4 bulbs off the head light switch and how old is this switch?
It may also fix the feed back issue too?

Cant think of anything else at this time.
Keep us posted what you find

+1 on FuzFace2's reply. Grounds are the leader of all feedback issues. Core support to frame, frame to motor, motor to bat -. Every link in the path counts.

I also agree about fixing the ground issue.

Short of that, use a diode instead of a resistor to block electricity from back feeding. They are sensitive to high temps, so you'll need a heat sink (usually a metal clip/clamp) between the diode and the joint if you are soldering it in. The line on the diode represents the negative side, so install it with the line away from the normal voltage source.

Feedback problem fixed

I finally had some time today to figure the feed back to the high beam indicator. I checked the grounds for the headlights and found they were not the problem. So I wired in 2 relays low and high and the feed back is gone. As far as I could tell, the problem was in the headlight switch itself, that said the lights work great and the indicator light works with brights only. The headlight switch is out of a 72 LTD. As for the H-4 bulbs I wired in ceramic plugs to take the heat. Thanks for the advice guys.

From left to right, High beam, Low beam and condenser fans all of which are fused.
