Topper/Cap ID please

Hi everyone,

I am the new owner of a '95 F-150 regular cab/short bed. The truck came with a topper that I have removed and am looking to sell, which will be a lot easier if I know what make/model it is. I've taken a close look at it and haven't been able to identify any manufacturer's information, so I thought I'd reach out to the forum. Thanks for any assistance.

Just be honest & and say " Leer or good Leer copy" if it has zero mfg ID.

It's not a big market & I don't think there is going to be a lot of nit pickers after 25-30 years.

As long as all the parts are there & it's not rotted or falling apart, you should be good.

What shape are the steps in?

I thought it looked like a GT (Gem Top) to me, so maybe they all look alike anymore.

Generally, there will be a manufacturers ID plate somewhere inside. (not to say that its 100% true, just generally true.) But If I had to guess, I'd say it's most like a Leer, or good Leer knockoff, like @Scndsin says.

Thanks all.

I would have thought so as well, but the only thing there is a vendor placard - "Cap City, Virginia Beach". Maybe they made an in-house product back in the day?

Forgive my lack of knowledge about these caps - what are the 'steps'?

I’m almost 100% sure he was referring to condition of the steps to get in and out of the cab.

Ah - THOSE steps. They seem to be in good shape - no cracks or any other damage that I've noticed, and the support hardware underneath looks good. The original owner was a little old lady who probably didn't put much stress on them, and I bought the truck from her son-in-law who is pretty tall and probably didn't use them very often. A DJM 3"/4" drop kit goes on next week, so the steps will remain on for aesthetics but won't be used by me either.

Not cheap, unfortunately. DJM had a 10% off + free shipping promotion recently and I was able to take advantage of that to keep the kit under $800 out the door (without shocks). Their 3"/5" drop kit is a lot cheaper (the 5" rear drop is just a flip kit, whereas the 4" drop relocates the front spring mount position and includes more hardware), but after seeing some examples and reading some descriptions I decided it was lower than I wanted to drop the rear. The DJM front bars allow the use of stock-length springs and shocks and are things of beauty - I'm happy to have gone that route rather than using shorter springs and altering how the front end was intended to work. Based on what I was able to learn, I went with Belltech shocks instead of what DJM offers.

Sounds like it's going to be sweet when done.

You've got a really cherry starting point. Everything looks perfect, right down to the tail panel & wheels.

You'll have to do a build thread.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday when I saw this. The truck looks really nice. Box cleaned up well, and everything is nice and straight. A little polish will go a long way on it.

Good luck with it, nice find.

Thanks gents. I was pleasantly surprised that the pressure washer revealed a decent truck with a lot of potential underneath years and years of, well - whatever this is:

looks to be organic in nature, possibly sap or fungal buildup. I would try a mild surfactant and a brush to remove it then follow with your pressure washer/vehicle soap
