BBK Headers + GT40P Heads
well, kind of my second choice (iron heads) for my 84 F150 XL (302W) - I went to the local Pick Your Part today where I knew they had a 99 Explorer and yanked the heads off. I verified the GT40P casting marks and set them aside in the shop for inspection. Later.
My question : BBK makes shorty and long tube headers that are designed to not melt spark plug wires. Does anyone know the part numbers for those?
thanks

The GT40 and GT40P head swaps were a big deal one time...even getting the stock E7TE heads ported was a big deal, but as the price of aftermarket aluminum heads came down, it rendered all the iron head swaps more or less obsolete. I still did it myself, but as I said with the GT40 heads, not the P version.
Have a look in that thread Franklin linked to above...good stuff in there. That guy seems to have found a set of headers that fit the heads OK, but I don't know how well they fit the truck in the end. They look like Foxbody headers, and while some guys do make them work in the trucks, a lot of guys have complained about them also. I don't think they'll work at all if you have a manual linkage clutch, but they might be OK with other transmissions.
it’s nice to have a set of GT40 heads to play around with but you’re right - by the time you have the heads soaked and deep cleaned, valves and seats refurbished, valve guides replaced, valve springs replaced. What about lifters, push rods and rockers? When all is said and done. I’ll wind up with a lot of money invested in what? Iron heads.
It might be smarter to just buy a set of fully assembled aluminum heads
