are the gt40 heads worth the power and tourque gains not to put on headers? going on my 95 f150 w/351. or just wait and save up for some aftermarket heads and use headers. a guy i work with builds racing motors, and if i get em, he said he would look over the heads and everything.
You would be crazy to pass up GT40s if can get them cheap, the stock heads are too small. Even without headers there will be gains and you'll see even more with other upgrades.
ya the heads are dirt cheap... 20 bucks a head. i am buying them anyways, but was wondering whether or not to put them on, because i was under the assumption that both gt40 and gt40p heads required special headers.
From what I understand, the "p" heads have an unusual spark plug angle causing issues with removal of the plug if headers are installed.
The regular gt-40 heads have what I'm guessing is a "norma"l plug angle and therefor do not create the same issue with headers installed.
Edit:....Oh and for the price, I would take a good look at them, but that's a steal
GT40 heads are identified by 3 vertical bars on the ends and a GT cast into the corner near the valve cover surface, they have 1.84/1.54" valves and flow 20% better than E7's. Externally they are no different than E7's and take the same rockers, plugs, valve covers, and exhaust parts. GT40p heads have 4 vertical bars on the end and have GTP cast into the corners. They have 1.84/1.46" valves and flow 30% better than E7's. They are also the same as E7's externally and use all the same parts except the plugs which are angled differently and have a longer shank. Equal length shorty headers simply cannot be used with this head but most others fit with at most minor clearancing.
