I am looking for an engine harness for an '04 Excursion with a 6.0. The build date it 6-30-2004 and the VIN is 1FMSU43P84EE06500.
The local Ford parts dealer gave me the part number of 4c7z-12a581-ak. But it and every other iteration seem to be out of production and unavailable.
E-Bay has some chinese made stuff that I want to steer clear of.
FICMRepair.com suggests going with the '03 version (3C3Z-12B637-AB) with a few modifications (lengthening a couple of pigtails due to a different placement on the truck) and leaving some unplugged.
Has anyone tried this out or have any better suggestions?
The loom got pinched under a stud and now the truck will randomly shut off while driving. If I wiggle the loom I can replicate the problem. I pulled the wrap back where it was pinched but can't find any that appear broken or chafed so I believe the wire broke inside the insulation.
I bought my new harness off Rock Auto for my 2003 a few years ago, i know the 2003 has 90° connetors on it, where as a newer one they are straight if i remember correctly? That the issue i had to, it aeems like the harness should be 1/2" longer on each connection so it isnt so damn tight.
I rebuilt mine which is not as easy as it sounds, the stock harnesses use very high quality materials that are not easy to obtain in the consumer market and the harness is made very exactly in both diameter, length and shape to fit exactly how it is supposed to to avoid chaffing and heat sources. But with some research and careful observations it can be done.
i ohmed every wire and visually check the insulation of every inch 360*
in general you will find that the failures happen very close to where the nylon split loom ends, especially near bends.
fwiw, Yes i speced nylon split loom not the common polypropylene you find at retail, nylon has the grey strip and is good to 200*
I installed my harness with great success from Riffraff Diesel in May.
I have an 04 6.0 and the part number was 4C3Z-12B637-CA. They confirmed this via the tag off my old harness. They had the Ford OEM part.
