Good morning Mike,Thomas and David.. we are supposed to get rain today and I should try and wash the bugs of the old pickup before it arrives and get it parked back in the garage..lol
David would be able to tell just what I need to be able to make this engine run and what can be eliminated from the wiring. I'm at a complete loss now and feeling like I'm
trying to swim with lead boots on...lol
I have no real time frame , there is so much that needs done. This motor will need work I'm sure. The odometer was reading 347,000 kilometres (215,000 miles) but it was drawn to my attention that because the block and heads are painted black it might be a re-manufactured engine and the blue smoke it was puffing and the low compression numbers could be because it sat for several years not running. I'm trying to figure out what will be the cheapest to get it running. I plan on using an Ezwire 21 circuit wiring harness for the truck in general, not sure all what is needed from the Ford harness. I've also been thinking of just using one of those Holley Sniper throttle bodies on a four barrel manifold. How much of the harness would you need..?
Generally when I harvest a harness, I say take the computer plug loose and take everything out that can be unplugged without cutting.
But that runs all the way around the front/rad support & includes the lighting circuits, charging/starting circuits & AC pressure sensor
The most important parts are what goes from ECU out to the engine from under the fuse box. There's only 2 circuits, I think that need to get power out of the fuse box.
ECU power & fuel pump relay for sure. You need the clutch safety switch, or there's a way to jump it at the ECU I believe.
I know how to pull the air injection & EGR stuff & leave it (connected) off to the side so the computer sees it & it doesn't throw codes that alter performance.
A lot of it just hands on that I do without thinking to much about it till I have to look at a diagram.
Black paint is most likely a rebuild indicator. Factory is grey. Maybe you could get a battery on it & check compression.
I have no idea what the mileage was on the freebie and the one who owned it is no longer living here to get an idea but it appears to be the original block and is rather crusty..lol When I removed the wiring harness with the freebie I just cut the harness bundle going to the front of the vehicle. I'll lay out what I took and get a picture and post it..everything going to the engine was unplugged. I have the complete harness from the first one I got but the wiring was a real mess under the hood on that one..
