installing steering stabilizer

My 2000 F250 4wd with leaf springs front and rear has a wandering problem. I'm changing out the shocks and looking to add a steering stabilizer. The truck does not currently have a steering stabilizer installed. When I look at videos to install one, I only find vids installing on trucks that currently have a stabilizer. On my truck, I have a mounting point on the passenger side- kind of a U shaped steel bracket. I do not have a bracket on the driver side to mount the stabilizer. I'm not sure where to buy the bracket, and how precise the measuring would be to mount the stabilizer correctly. Any ideas?

Thanks!

You’ll need this https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts...et-f81z3e652aa

And this
Amazon Amazon

might also need to purchase u bolts for the bracket. Tractor supply or Home Depot should do the trick

You can also get used to the vehicle "wandering". These things are notorious for needing to be herded from shoulder to the center line. A stabilizer on the tie rod won't fix that. It sucks, but it keeps my wife from ever wanting to drive any of my pickups!

I've been fighting some wandering too. I put in a new blue top steering box, all new inner/outer tie rods, new ball joints, wheel bearings. It's improved things a good bit, but not perfect.

I would've liked to drive one new. Was steering ever tight in these?

I am now driving more than herding the truck down the road, so good enough.

Good luck with the stabilizer, let us know how much it helps.

I’m getting close to installing the same steering stabilizer as fordcowboy has linked. It’s currently sitting in my Amazon cart.

As far as the bracket goes mine was never equipped either.

Been looking into the different options and pricing on the market and decided that I have enough 1/4” flat stock that I’m gonna make my own. Being frugal and having some fab skills also helped to make that decision.

Thanks FordCowboy! My local dealer assured me that this part was no longer available from Ford. The Bilstein stabilizer you linked is the same one I was looking at. My buddy has the same model truck, so I'm hoping his has the stabilizer and I can use the measurements from his truck to mount to mine.

The Bilstein stabilizer worked on my 2001. Be sure you place it where directions say it goes.

I installed the Bilstein front stabilizer in 2016 with the OEM parts and it made a noticeable difference in the steering. I travel cross country towing a 5th wheel and decent steering is not a nicety, it is a necessity and a safety point.

The biggest difference came with the removal of the steering gear and installing a Blue Top gear, but the stabilizer helped as did the Hellwig sway bar.

I was lucky and adopted the OEM parts from a friend who removed them in order to install an aftermarket dual stabilizer.

Good luck and keep us updated.
