Spent the big bucks $4400 (yikes) on a Jasper reman transmission installed. Out of the shop it worked fine. Had intermittent no-start needing to jiggle or move shifter out of park and back into park to start. Dammit. Back to shop. They said they verified the complaint and adjusted the switch. Now down the road same thing happens. Dammit.
Is it difficult to adjust the NSS? On other cars I put the transmission in reverse and have someone call out lights on or off as I rotate the NSS. Tighten the NSS in the middle of the lights on range. Hopefully that’s all it takes and they’ll adjust it again at no charge..
There is a procedure to adjust your MLP sensor or TR sensor. Basically you adjust it to start only in neutral and park. The Ford ones are pricy so the rebuild shop might not have replaced yours.
I think you should just replace it yourself with a cheap Autozone one. They come with a pin in them that helps with alignment.
Manual lever position sensor and Transmission range sensor, they both control the backup lamps and the neutral start functions, as well as telling the processor what the lever position is.
Good luck
The name NSS isn't used anymore. It changed to MLPS (Manual Lever Position Sensor) and then changed to TRS (Transmission Range Sensor.) They all describe essentially the same part. The difference is that the MLPS and TRS also have a part that sends data to the PCM to show where the trans shifter is at. The NSS doesn't do that.
A 1992 C6 would have a NSS, a 1992 E4OD would have a MLPS (also called TRS.)
Is it possible that a faulty TRS will crank and not start? My 2003 E350 occasionally cranks and does not start. When I move the shift lever through the gears and back, I can start it in neutral or park.
The TR sensor should not have anything to do with a no start issue
That said
I had a newer Probe 96 or 7 was a no start
Checked everything several times
Found a cruise control fuse that took out the coil pack (not in the book)
Anything is possible, I'd replace the TR sensor with a new Motorcraft one and retest
