On a 11 thru 2016, behind the wheel well, as indicated near this persons thumb, there is a provide hole with grommet on the firewall. Do we have this on 2017+ ?
2021 on the firewall behind the e-brake area a large rubber piece with a wire harness going through.
yeah...that one is impossible to work with...its too stiff and too dense...and there is no room for a the harness that I have to pass thru it with out cutting the harness and re-assembling it.
the hole in my picture would be to the left of the main harness. I am at work so when I get home I'll have to look inside the wheel well to see if that additional plug from my picture is there.
I made a kind of "needle" from a long screwdriver that I ground down so there is a sharp point on the end instead of a flat blade screwdriver. Then I used a Dremel tooll to cut an eye in the end. I push the "needle" through that big grommet, pull through some baling wire, and then pull the wire(s) I need inside the cab (an 8 gauge wire for 12v from the battery and a coax cable). Lightly greasing the "needle" and wires lets them slide through easily.
Of course this won't work for anything large or with a connector. But, for me, it accomplishes what I need easily. Of course you do need to use some bit of caution so as not to interfere with the wire bundle in that grommet, but it is plenty large for a wire or two well away from the main bundle.
OK, I'm going to attempt a "How To", I have done this to 3 trucks to date (20/21/22).
The large plug (driver side) with the main harness has 2 small relief cuts at 9 and 3 o'clock near the wire loom. From the inside, insert some form of fish tape or a strand of 12 gauge solid wire through (3 o'clock), if it stops, you need to reach in from under the hood and straighten the bend in the boot (points down on a 45 degree angle), roll the cloth tape downward on the end of the boot so the fish tape can get through and have someone else push the fish tape through from the inside. I was able to easily pull a 2 wire (black/red) 12 gauge wire through to feed my ham radio in the console.
Be patient, don't force it, if a path is found the resistance will be minimal as long as the person under the hood keeps the bend as straight as possible. Sorry, I'm not very good writing instructions but hope this helps.
