I have an 88 E-150 4.9L with the M5OD transmission. I recently replaced the clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder, RMS, front transmission seal, and other clutch related parts. The shift boot is in good shape, but the metal clips that hold it to the dog house were rotted and broke off. Finding a replacement boot for an E-150 has been pretty tough. IIRC there weren't/aren't many on the road. Any suggestions w/o drilling holes into the dog house would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Maybe you could post a couple of pictures to let us know what you're looking for. Most of us either have automatics or 3 on the tree.
I'm looking for the rubber shifter boot. On the bottom are metal clips that grab the underside of the engine cover, there are 4 IIRC. Two on the bottom rotted off, and the boot slips down as in the picture. I can drill holes in it and use self tapping screws, I'd rather not. It is not the same boot used in the PU trucks or the Bronco.
I'm the original owner. Over the years I've had it in for tires, alignments, and annual state inspections, no one has ever seen an E-150 with a 5 speed stick. Searching for that boot tells me there aren't many around.

I have an idea of what you're talking about but not sure what they look like. Perhaps you can use something like these U-clips maybe glued to the backside of the base plate or if there's slots for the clips to seat into you could maybe use die grinder to modify some clips to fit?? Hope the link helps
