Hey,
I had my ICM go out on me recently and input a replacement in. It’s a ‘90 E 250 88,000 miles with a class b rv body by Gulf Stream with a 351. The van also sometimes shifts erratically like random down shifts and whatnot. After replacing the bad ICM it seems like it’s now shifting better. Is that possible? Does the ICM signal tie into the E4OD tranny? Knock on wood but she’s running like a dream
I cant help with the E4OD but we have a couple of folks here that are really good with transmissions. Start a new thread and title it something like Help with random shifts 1990 E4OD or similar. That way folks who know about transmissions will be more likely to read your post. I would guess that the ICM had been going bad and the engine was not preforming correctly which would affect the transmission performance.
Perhaps it would be more helpful posting this question in the Transmissions sub-forum? Agreed on the non-descriptive post title not helping the right set of eyes seeing the described symptoms.
Both engine and trans are controlled by the same PCM in that vehicle so any functional issue with the engine will affect transmission operation, the computer is programmed to respond that way.
The whole truck ties into that E4OD, well some of it anyway. it has several inputs and all the shifts are controlled electronically
You need to check the codes and you may have one for the MLPS now known as the TR sensor (transmission range sensor and manual lever position sensor)
Check the codes and service the transmission call me in the morning
