Hi folks, I purchased a portable tire changer from Harbor Freight for my Dad (about 10 years ago!) and we have never been able to use it because we disagree about hout it should be mounted. I feel it should work on a heavy (3/4 maybe) sheet of plywood and Dad feels it needs to be anchored to the concrete floor. It came without instructions and its part number is 34542-9BGB
For true portability I would mount it to a steel or aluminum plate with casters mounted at an angle to one side. When you need to move it, tip it back onto the casters and push it to where you want it. A scrap steel plate should be cheaper than an equal size aluminum. But depends on what's available. I would use 1/4" thick aluminum for strength and yet not add to much weight if you need to load it in a truck.
I want to get one of those and mount it on a piece of 2" square tubing so I can stick it in my trailer hitch when I want to use it at the race track.
Has anyone here actually used this kind of changer? I'm just wondering how well it works.
