Anyone use ArcView / GIS?

We're talking about getting this at my office, only I have no experience with it, nor do I know what version to get. I've been told the newest (9.0) is the way to go, then I was told that itdepended on what you're looking for. Anyone know anything about it?

we use the free reader for bentley view- i think its the same company. works good for what we use it for- see the maps at www.chantryinc.com - click on property profiles on the left, pick a property and look at the map.

I use ArcGISv9 for work. It really does depend on what you plan to do with it. If you are looking for something to just display aerial photos & maps, then ESRI has a free viewer that will allow you to do that. If you need the spatial analyst features to actually manipulate and work with data, then ArcGISv9 would be better. Take the classes offered by ESRI if you intend to use ArcGISv9 much for work, it will help you understand the advanced features.
