Don't know of any off hand. I never thought the weight of a dentside tailgate to be too much. Maybe there would be a way to adapt the torsion spring from a Bronco. They used them from 78 to 96. Bronco tailgates are heavy and required them.
NO there is not one "made to order specifically" for our trucks and I am glad there is not. It's called MAN UP muscles. Lol I think you might be able to make one work though. Do they sale a universal kit?
Also the idea of adding elec windows, elec back slider, elec locks, remote lock/unlock with the clicker, remote start, turn switch 4wd, crumble zones, running board that come down when you open the door, doors that auto lock when you put get above X MPH, w/s wiper that work automatically, self dimming headlights. Truck shuts off at a stop light to save the whales, and Ford Sync is a great idea for a NEW truck.
Blue tooth, touch screen, heated steering wheel, a/c in the seats, On Star, self dimming rear view mirror, a panoramic sun roof....remember when Ford trucks had manual transmission, vinyl floors and a waist belt only?
While you are at it fill in the dent and call it a day.
I have one of these on my 95 F150. Could never figure out why my tailgate was easier to raise then my sons 96 F150. Finally found out where to purchase. It says it is not confirmed to fit the 73-79 but i don't see why it wouldn't. It is just a torsion bar. You might check into it.

Such never ever occurred to me?
I gave it some thought, the assist idea ... dropping my tailgate on the '77 isn't dropping it on cables. I guess a set up could be adapted like those assist set up for heavy trailer tailgates, use long garage door coil springs, but be hard to hide, The torsion bar idea would hide it.
Ya well, I built my truck to be used. It’s got 600 miles on it in the last few days and more to go. Prepping for fair and it packs all my trailers and tools. Tailgate assist would be an assist as opposed to slamming down. Still, better looking than all these super duty’s that everyone else is running.
I think if you looked at the torsion bar setup on like let's say a 07, and then get one of those torsion bars off that link that moose sent. Those could probably be adapted to work on your tailgate. Because it sounds like your tailgate is getting a workout for sure.
Or look at the aftermarket style that's just compression piston, kind of like what holds up the lid on tool boxes or holds up the back hatch or the hood on newer cars.
Not much room for a piston type with the solid link tailgate support arms. The last few years of F-150's and now probably SD's have a pretty cool set up. The lower mount pivot is hooked to an arm and that's hooked to a gas piston type spring mounted up behind the tail lamp. Would take some adaption.
