Rag joint to universal joint

Has anyone ever converted the rag joint on the factory steering column to a universal joint? I have a pretty good idea how I’m going to do it but was curious if anyone else had down this. I don’t see a need to reinvent the wheel if there is already a good way.

A rag joint used to be used in cars as a flex coupling in the dcrive train, they take no lubrication, they work. They are fine for steering in my book. They also allow for slight changes in length like when the truck flexes or hits a hard bump and the cab bushings compress slightly. Easy to look at for condition, easy to replace the rag, transmits rotation about perfect.

Everything you said is true. I’ve not had any trouble out of mine the past 12 years I’ve been driving it. Unfortunately it has to go because I’m updating to a power rack for steering.
