I have a manual tailgate latch. When I lift the handle to open the tailgate, it takes some pull to get it to open. when I get it open the handle stays in open position. I have to manually push the handle back down to shut to tailgate and have it latch. I have taken it apart and tried lubricating but that didn't help. Any ideas? Thank you in advance for your time.

 

There is a recall for tailgate latches. Not sure which ones in particular. My electric one needs a pull as well and has a recall
