Bucking/Jerking

I finally got my truck running but I keep getting this bucking/jerking thing happening when I am decelerating, then it will often stall when slowing to a stop. It also gets worse as the engine gets warmer. I installed new plugs and wires, cap and rotor, and thought that would fix it, but it is still doing it.

Doing it on deceleration is odd. your timing might be horribly advanced, does it kick the starter when you crank it ?

Or it could be dying and restarting, that could be several things.

What do you mean by "kick the starter"?
It's not dying and restarting, I know that.
The starter has spun w/o catching a few times...
Under a load and accelerating, it runs great.

Has anyone heard of this:

ISSUE

Engine mis, spark knock,buck/jerk,surge and other drive ability concerns may be caused by induction crossfire. This occurs because of improperly routed spark plug wires.

ACTION

If spark plug replacement is performed, the correct firing order and spark plug wire routing is essential to prevent the possibility of induction crossfire between cylinders.Refer to the following procedures for inspection of spark plug wire routing and firing order.Properly reroute the spark plug wires if required.

yes it is a thing thst could happen but with today's better plug wires and if good I have not heard of it happening as of late.
If you are getting cross fire through the plug wires replace them.

It's compicated, but maybe the smog air pump control if you still have it.

Do you mean the EGR valve? I’ve never heard of a “smog air pump”.

My 2 cents

Double check the advance isnt sticking open

Take a quick look at the driveline components (brakes, etc)

Double check the timing with a timing light

Double check the plug wires are going to the correct cylinder

Check the plugs to see if there is anything off in one cylinder

Check compression

Throw a different carb on

Throw a different computer box on

Replace the distributor
