My truck requires the choke to be set at 3 Rich according to sticker. What does three Rick look like? Is it the third notch to the left of center? Here is what my setting is right now. (See attached) This is what it look like cold.
The
That's all meaningless. you just have a heat coil in there that warms up and opens the choke, it's not a precision device by any means.
just adjust your choke to where it starts good and backs off as soon as possible as the engine warms. then make sure once it's warmed up the choke is completely open.
The choke cap should have arrows and rich or lean call out on lid. Failing that, prop accelerator partially open, if you turn cap to rich the choke will close, if you turn to lean it will open. Carb tuning is a science, you can spend a lot of time dialing it in for your temp and location. But when you get it right it will rival FI.
It starts fine, but idles low at first, then when it's warm the idle increases, but when I blip the accelerator pedal, it doesn't drop down like I feel it should.
Sounds like the fast idle cam isn't properly adjusted. I set mine up according to the specs (I think it was a link to RangerStation.com) and it works great. I mash the accelerator to the floor and hold it for a second, then release. Fires up everytime, and after a few minutes can blip the throttle and it settles down to curb idle.
Let me see if I can find it. Someone on here sent it to me when I was troubleshooting my 2150. Another possibility is that its got a vacuum leak somewhere, causing the high idle. I couldn't get mine down, and the idle mixture adjustment screws were 4.5 turns out. Compensating for unmetered air that was coming from the throttle shaft.
I do the credit card trick to adjust my choke. With the engine cold (and not running), I turn the black cap till the butterfly is open. I then slide a credit card down between the butterfly and the "barrel wall" and then turn the cap in the close direction until the butterfly barely touches the card. Remove the card and tighten the cap screws. Choke set. Works every time for me.
