I acquired a 2017 project and one headlight has 2 cracked tabs and minor scratches and the other walked off. They had to take the grill and headlights out.
I see LKQ has some new ones for a reasonable price. I dont know if these have the bulbs and ballasts etc?
Anyone use these?
I dont mind used or fixing the tabs on my one but half the time the adjustment screws etc are not 100% and I dont have a lot of time to jack with it.
I have heard (I can not remember the source) that the LED headlights in these trucks are prone to failure if the parent vehicle was in a considerable wreck. This applies even if the LED headlights "look" fine cosmetically. Usually part recyclers will take pictures of all exterior faces of parts being sold, you should easily be able to identify if the ballast is included with the used headlights.
The LED headlights are non-serviceable, self contained units. There are no bulbs to be "missing". The ballasts are separate from the headlights.
No. They are attached to the bottom of the LED headlights. the ballast module is a silver 4x4inch (approx) box. Without the module the headlights will have two plugs hanging out the bottom.
I am pretty sure the modules have to be programmed for the truck they are in.
OEM LED headlights are not serviceable so they have to be completely replaced if any part of the lightning is not working but the ballast are replaceable.
Remanufactured OEM LED headlights?
Perhaps someone can chime in on this because I’ve never heard of such a thing for SD‘s or F150‘s.
Depending on where they’re purchased from, a brand new pair will set you back between $2.4K - $3K and a working used pair will fall in the $1.5K - $2K range.
LKQ and lakeland ford have them for about $950 each. LKQ said they were new aftermarket and then said remanufactured and may or may not have a module. CarID has the LKQ part number for $550 but out of stock, maybe i will ask LKQ directly to match the price. I only have one ballast so I will shop that now.
Bunch of broke tab used ones on ebay for $500. I will probably pull my ballast out and get another light instead of jacking with repairing it.
I dont have a ton of time to experiment with a shops time. Have time to shop though, getting it rolling and running in the next few days.
