Headlight Lens Replacement ?

Can the lenses on headlights be replaced without replacing the entire headlight assemblies?

My '90 F150 (had it a week, already) has lenses that obscure some of the light from the halogen bulbs. It seems like there's a film on the lenses, but I suspect that it's just distortion from 15+ years of abrasion from dirt, dust, etc.

Being the cheapskate I am, I'd prefer to replace just the lenses and not the whole assemblies (assuming it is possible and that separate lenses are available). I took a look at them yesterday and found the lenses fastened only by some type of sealant that appears to have dried and partially fallen out over the years.

If this is a reasonable approach, could someone tell me where to get the lenses and how to remove the assemblies so as not to damage anything during the process?

TIA
rh

nope. 1 piece units. you replace the whole light assembly or nothing. they are sealed units to keep moisture out

They'll cost you about $150 a pop. Ouch. I have the same problem on my '87 and it's killing me just thinking about it.

They are around 100-120 for a damn headlight. Makes you wish you had an old pickup with the glass headlights you replaced for $7-8. They arent exactly bullet proof either.

Once you put those new one's on it makes a world of difference, especially on a rainy night. Easy to do.

Check with aftermarket parts- should run about $40/ea. Or... sometimes some mothers polish will clear up the cloudy lenses.

I had the same problem, used 1000 grit wet/dry sand paper and wet sanded it till it was white. Followed up with rubbing compound on a polisher and it now looks 500% better!
