Hello All, This is regarding water pump replacement that currently has no problems. I'm about to replace alternator because I tested it and found bad diode/ diodes problem. I thought i might as well change water pump at the same time. My "O" ring (crappy design) was leaking about a year ago causing unneeded concern. I ended up wiggling the "o" ring connection and thereby resetting it and that fixed it for then and still now. I have a 2013 f150 5L. It's got 105k miles.
How long do these water pumps typically last?
I've never changed the Tranny fluid. Is this way over due?
I'm very new on here. Don't know where to post these type of questions yet.

Thank You! joe
Maintenance schedule is in the owners manual, if you don't have one you can d/l it for free when you create a free Ford Owner account over on www.owner.ford.com there's no life span or expectancy for things like the water pump, you replace them when they fail.
On the alternator replacement, to avoid headaches down the road, replace it with a genuine Ford or Motorcraft remanufactured unit. Aftermarket rebuilders don't seem to have a good grasp on the "Smart tech" that's inside. Most of the time they will charge the battery like they should yet leave you staring at a glowing alt or battery light and a charging system warning on the information display.
If you have the 6 speed trans, it's sealed for life and Ford only recommends changing fluid at 150,000 miles if in severe duty. See snip below from Ford shop manual for the 13 F150.

Now, knowing what Ford recommends, if you do not have any history on this trucks maintenance or usage, it's probably not a bad idea to change the trans fluid, the filter and gasket are both reusable. DON'T TRY TO FLUSH IT! You can't due to the internal thermostat, you can only flush the cooler.
I bought my truck brand new. On my previous 2004 f250 I would always use full synthetic motor oil. On my 2013 f150 at it's first oil change I used full synthetic as well. Then someone told me you're not supposed to use full synthetic in these trucks and that they heard it from the dealer. So, I switched it back to synthetic blend the next oil change. Did I mess up my motor by doing that? From what I hear these 5.0's have a noisy valve train. Don't know if I'm just imagining it but it seemed to run a little rougher and valve train seems loud ever since.

Whomever made that statement is an idiot. There's nothing wrong with using synthetic oil in any engine. It's better than regular oil.
I run synth in all my machines. By all means change it back if you like, won't hurt a thing just stay with the same weight the truck calls for, 5w20. I usually get Mobile 1 from Walmart then print out a rebate coupon on Mobile 1 website. They've been a running a rebate on their stuff every year for as long as I can remember.

So, I'm at 105k and the only thing I'm noticing is an occasional kick in the butt as if I have a shift kit installed and that is only shifting into 2nd gear. Again, it's rare. I also haven't done the recommended 19s07 / NHTSA Recall 19v-075 ( unintended downshift ).
Should I wait until 150k and if I decide to do it, do it then? Don't know if I'm in the " severe duty maintenance " category or not? I use the truck for work. It's a 2 wheel drive and only approx. 12k miles a year. It's loaded down with tools, about <=400 lbs of extra weight and the rare additional cargo of a load around 1500 lbs. I do push the limits of it's rated capacity on occasion.
Thanks
I haven't done the recall on mine either and have no plans what so ever to do so. I have custom tunes so Ford's strategy change (recall) wouldn't amount to anything any way. I also have no plans to ever change the trans fluid as I don't put any miles on my truck, 25k so far and when I do use it like a truck it's very infrequent. Next truck will be electric.
Ford's idea of "Severe duty" would not entail most people, you would find severe duty use in fleet vehicles, taxi's, police, etc...
