I read some of them, there’s a lot of info there haha, I’ll look into a new alternator. I’m really hoping that unplugging it means the alternator is bad and not that the wiring is messed up somewhere.

@Mark Kovalsky i unplugged the alternator and it didn’t through any codes it just didn’t shift right at the correct times. It wound down shift when it shouldn’t and stuff like that. As soon as I plug the alternator back in it throws those codes in the picture above. I have a spare good alternator so I put it in, it does the exact same thing now. So it works when the alternator is unplugged but doesn’t work when plugged in. How do I fix this?

Have you checked the alternator connectors and wiring for chafes, exposed wiring, shorts?

Also, check the #4 injector connector and wiring. Some weird things can happen with injector coil shorts. I know it is a contribution code, and not an electrical code, but it is a clue worth following.

Did you charge AND test your batteries? This was VERY good advice from Sean! IMO it is a MUST DO.

There are so many unsolved threads on P0720!

I know this is a 7.3L, but he fixed his P0720 by replacing the batteries.

As with the alternator - TESTING is recommended, not just replacing.

Also - highly recommended is to check all the grounds.

We’ll I tried everything, the tranny started slipping and I’m pretty sure it’s shot now. So I’m taking it out and finding a rebuilt one for a well known company that has a warranty. Thank you guys for all the help I really appreciate it!

How much do you expect to spend on a local rebuilt one?

Call and talk to Scott or Ed. I think you will be suprised by the price of a rebuilt one with 2 year warrantee.

Hello all! I have some more issues with a tranny for this same truck. I got one out of a front end crashed truck that only has 125,000 miles on it. They said it was a perfectly running tranny and it came from someone I can trust and I know wouldn’t sell me anything screwy. They gave me a 30 day warranty just so I felt better about it all also. I got it stuck in and going on day 3 of the warranty. As soon as I turned the truck on the tow light started flashing though. 6 tranny codes came up, P0985 (SSE control circuit low) P0982 (SSD control circuits low) P0979 (Shift selinoid C circuit low) P0770 ( selinoid E circuit malfunction) P0765 (shift selinoid 4 circuit) P0760 (shift selinoid 3 circuit) I thought it was a bad connection so disconnected all wiring and cleaned it and made sure there was a solid connection. It got rid of 3 of those codes so now all that’s left is the SS codes and Selinoid C code. Could this be a bad plug issue? A wiring issue? Or some sensor or something? Maybe because i Drained all the fluid and flushed the lines nothing is in the system yet? I’ve only drove it about 200 yards and it goes it all gears(P R N D 321) great but I haven’t went fast enough to shift into 2nd yet. You guys have helped me a lot I just need a little more so I can get this damn thing going and have a vehicle haha thank you.

Those codes can only be set by an electrical problem. You have either several failed solenoids or much more likely, a damaged wiring harness between the PCM and the transmission.

I was really hoping for a loose connection or something but I had the wiring completely out of the way when I pulled the tranny and put the new one in so I don’t think I could have crunched it. And I didn’t have those codes before so I’m thinking it could be the sensors but I’m not even sure what those ones are or where they are located at
