Good afternoon all- I have a 1978 f250 crew cab with an np435 transmission and np205 transfer case, I’m in the process of removing the transmission and transfer case and the two will not separate. I have removed all 6 bolts connecting trsf case to the tower and removed the linkage held in my a cotter pin. It would be a lot easier process if I could separate the transmission and transfer case. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I usually just give the case a good violent shake. If that doesn't work a couple good smacks with a good rubber mallet. The tranny and transfer case very well have never been apart so they can be obstinate lol
If you haven't already removed your transfer case. Not trying to insult you in any way.
Ensure wheels are chocked, transmission and transfer case are both in neutral, ensuring there isn't any torque / resistance on the drive train. Ensure transfer case mounting to driver's side frame bolts are out, then incorporate as nluttrell described in his above thread with a couple of smacks with a rubber mallet or baby beater 2 pound sledge hammer with a piece of 2" x 4". Holding the piece of 2" x 4" against the end of the transfer case and hitting it. That NP 205 transfer case weighs about 240 pounds, so don't yours self underneath it.
I am happy to report both transmission and trsf have been removed. After a couple of violent tugs and few whacks with a rubber mallet aided with a crow bar the trsf case came lose.
